Hoarders

I fear that we may see our Anna Lee on that show in 10 years or so...
All kidding aside, I have to share this story. You'd be proud of me that instead of blowing up at my child, I decided to blog about the humor of it...but, SERIOUSLY?!

So, I have been inspired after seeing Julie and Julia, I've been motivated to try all of these delicious new recipes. So, I'm about two and half hours in to my Beef Bourguignonne by the time Scott gets home. I was pleasantly surprised that Anna Lee hadn't been trying to kill Shelby in the playroom and thought we had turned that glorious corner where these two sisters might just be enjoying playing together. Well, it turns out that Miss Anna was just distracted with her fun little habit.

Scott enters to his normal parade of girls hollerin' for Daddy and tackling him for hugs, and as I kiss him back, he tells me..."um, have you seen the Christmas tree, lately?".....Every ornament that Anna could reach was off of the tree and stacked gently in her toy kitchen. When asked, she said, "Hmm...someone took all of our ornaments and put them in my KITCHEN!"

I returned to my own kitchen and decided to ignore the toy one and miraculously my sweet husband and that same little elf that stole our ornaments put them right back where they belonged.

I wonder if our elf on the shelf should be on the naughty list for "his" larceny.

Anna Lee names Hayden's baby

At breakfast this morning:
Anna Lee: "I wonder when Aunt Hayden will have her baby."
Me: "Her sweet baby will come sometime in the spring, honey. Do you think it will be a girl or a boy?"
AL: "Um, I think it will be a boy....or, a girl."
Me: "You are so right! What do you think she and Uncle R. will name the baby?"
AL: "Probably Baby Chloe again (John and Cathy's baby)."
Me: "Well, that's your new cousin's name....what else might they name the baby?"
AL: "(Long pause....) Maybe, Agua?"
Me: Hmm....
AL: "You're right...that's Spanish for water....maybe Mrs. Tooter, b/c babies toot a lot."

Retreat

Do you think simplicity is challenging? It shouldn't be, right? It's not in my extroverted bones to sit still, but I need to. I need to be still and breathe and spend time solely with God, Scott & the girls.

I feel like life is moving too quickly and somehow I'm just sort of half-assing everything. This week, the fam and I are on a family retreat. Yes, we'll work and play and go to preschool, and operate as usual, but we're gonna snuggle a lot, and pray a lot, and just be.

This morning over breakfast, Anna was SO proud to announce the leaves turning colors. Children teach us so much. They notice. They listen. They're present in every moment.

Simple.

Weekend funnies

Some hilarious phrases that Anna Lee said definitely were worthy of posting here....

AL: "Is Jesus a girl? Does she make all girls?"
Us: "Actually, Jesus was a boy, but God can be a girl, if you want."
AL: "Yeah, God IS a girl! She is very beautiful."

As we were riding in the car on the way back to the aquarium on I-5, she randomly says, "I wonder what Charlie Bug is up to...I bet he is up to NO GOOD."

Scott was hanging curtains for me in the dining room. I was eating lunch and reading and the girls were playing.
Anna tends to get high on energy if she's been inside too much, so we said, "Anna, do you want to go pull some weeds for us outside?"
She replied, "Nah..I'm playin' with Shelby Belb."
So, we went about what were doing. She came over about 5 minutes later, while Scott was hanging the other pair, and said, "Daddy, are you hangin' up those curtains so Mommy doesn't have to see those weeds?"

Bwahahaha. She's a cutie pie.

Transcending: Words on Women and Strength by Kelly Corrigan

I posted this on Facebook a few months back, but I just needed this reminder because of recent news in my life.

I thank God for all of my Steel Magnolias. I love you all.

Anna's Recital

Little Stars

When twilight drops her curtain down
And pins it with a star
Remember that you have a friend
Though she may wander far.

Blessings.

Tomorrow (well, today, really) is an amazing day, one of the most important days of my life that I had prayed for, and it is here..
My soul mate, my partner, the most beautiful person in my life is getting Baptized today.
I am walking through life with my most favorite person. He loves me all the way through the grit, and I happily do the same.
The spiritual journey that we've walked together this year has been amazing and I feel so blessed to be able to accept the Holy Spirit's love in our family.
I feel so blessed to have such an amazing husband, two precious little baby girls and the best family & friends a girl could ask for.
Happy Easter to all of you!
Love,
Laura
